Loose Lips Sink Ships

A Spiritual Choreo-Play

About the show

Loose Lips Sink Ships is a new multidisciplinary play centering on Wyndell, a proud and fiery Navy veteran in his seventies, and his grandchild Libby, a curious and creative music student. When Libby finds an old yearbook that contradicts the stories she’s grown up with, Wyndell is forced to confront a complicated history one woven through war, racism, forbidden missions, lost love, and suppressed spiritual roots. We learn that their family lineage is more magical and powerful than they think. Through time-jumping scenes that merge realism and magic, we follow Wyndell from his rebellious youth in the Virginia mountains to a secret military operation in Cuba. Along the way, we meet orishas and hoodoo spirits including Eleggua, Uncle Monday, Annie Christmas, Chief Black Hawk and the ancestors of their family appear as spiritual guides, weaving African diasporic wisdom into their journey. We get to see Libby learn about their ancestral history and finds themselves through their lineage. The story culminates in a reckoning between truth, legacy, and redemption, framed by music, movement, and the persistent question: what is the benefit & cost of silence?
